Saturday

While most of the week was incredibly overwhelming and a kind of awful, Saturday was a winner, at least from 10am-11am and 4:30pm on.

In the morning, I went to the Soel Boutique because I heard that just today, they were having a fundraiser for Stephanie Nielson and her husband (who, if you recall, were in a plane crash.) It just so happens that the boutique is connected to the yoga studio whose website I’ve been eying for the last month or so. I got to see where it all is located and purchase greeting cards and these babies:

They look bigger in the picture than they really are.

After work was the LDS Relief Society Broadcast, and let me say, President Uchtdorf was amazing.

While listening to the broadcast, I began making a pizza. From scratch. For the first time ever in my life. Around 8pm, people began arriving for a sort of pizza/pasta party, for which I made, appropriately, pizza and pasta.

Mom, I made this pizza:

Whole wheat crust topped with mozzarella cheese, arugula, artichoke hearts, and apple.

Delicious!

I feel so blessed to be around the people I’m around, and I really felt that last night. When I visited this school last fall, I had this stunning feeling that I needed to be here. I knew that God placed people here who I needed to know, and I am confident that so many of my relationships are absolutely meant to be formed. It’s incredible how things fall into place!

Spiritual Though: A campus devotional from Roger Sorensen, chair of the theatre and media departments, that I attended last year. It’s 30 minutes long, but very good.

reasons why I like my job, part I

1. I get to see the school’s production of Dial “M” For Murder for FREE because of my job. And a lot of other upcoming productions. I heard Dial “M” is great. I know people who’ve worked on the show. There’s some buzz about the blood. We shall see.

2. I have a golden magical name tag.

That’s what I looked like tonight, if you were wondering.

3. I get to talk to strangers, but safe strangers because it’s a church school and, you know, religious folk are usually generally decently safe. Especially when they’re purchasing tickets for fine arts events.

*Note: I only say “part I” for this post because there will probably be many more opportunities to share why I like my job in the future, but I have no “part II” planned, so don’t get too excited.

math, etc.

school – calculus + religion = better fall semester experience

school + work + boy + yoga + etc. = overwhelming

But let me tell you, work is really great. I really enjoy it.

Also this weekend, a short trip up north, but just a little north.

Enough north to get forests of fall colors:

I thought of you, Mom, when I saw the colors, and no, I didn’t take the picture while driving. The person in the passenger seat did.

I hope everyone is well! October is almost here! Can you believe it?

Anticipation for a Celebration

I survived the week. There isn’t much more to say than that I suppose. I’ve been hanging out with dear friends, doing homework, and, the biggest news of all…

I GOT A JOB!

…as an evening cashier at the box office in the fine arts building! If all goes smoothly, I start next week.

Next month begins the season of holiday celebrations, and I intend on making the most of it. The first holiday in October is Leif Erikson Day. Are you celebrating? I sure am. I already bought the pie crust. I am very, very excited. (Not to mention that I have Icelandic and Norwegian heritage like Mr. Erikson! Cool!)

After that, of course, there is Halloween. I can’t decide what I want to dress up as yet, but I can tell you that I’m going to this event!

In closing, a spiritual thought (or two, rather, but kind of connected):

From Beowulf, lines 155-157, “…with hell in their hearts, they were lost to the Lord. They never would know the Almighty’s mind or worship the world’s one true protector.”

and Alma 23:7, “For they became a righteous people; they did lay down the weapons of their rebellion, that they did not fight against God any more, neither against any of their brethren.”

Rosemary

Dear Mom,

I think it’s time for me to start the list of things I’d like in my stocking this Christmas.

I don’t have money to spend on spices. Do you know how good Rosemary toast is? I swear, it’s delicious. Anyway, I had a dream on the night of August 30-September 1 and in it, I was looking for Rosemary at the grocery store (as I do often in real life) and found a large bag of it for $3.19. Crazy! I was so excited and bought it (in my dream, of course). That morning, when I woke up, my roommate Brittany was unloading and labeling her groceries and she had bags of rice. Suddenly, my mind plunged back to my dream and I had to really think whether it happened or not, which it never did, as it was a dream. So I still have no Rosemary, but for Christmas, can you put a bottle of it in my stocking?

Thanks, Mom!

Love, Your Favorite Daughter

Not much has been going on. School started. Classes are good. I’m taking all theatre classes except for one math class. I don’t think this will be a bad semester, but I don’t think it will be extremely memorable. It’s just a semester.

In completely unrelated news, here are some things I learned about the differences between men and women from a relationship class I took during education week.

Fascinating!
