Pioneers/ABBA/Caspian/Idaho

Thursday: Pioneer Day:

Keith, Jim, Ceci, Hayden, Kelsey, Danny, Abby, Stephen and I went on a long drive around the Alpine Loop and had a picnic. It was beautiful and I love Utah so much. We got back. Stephen and I went to Wal Mart to run errands while everyone else did whatever.

I WAS going to go to the ABBA Tribute Band concert at the SCERA Theatre… you know that. I talked about it frequently with a great deal of enthusiasm. However, that didn’t happen and instead we went to see the movie Mamma Mia! So, we still got our ABBA, just in a different form. It was SUCH a ridiculous, good, and ridiculously good movie. SUCH a good movie. Disclaimer: It isn’t rated PG. Therefore, if you are sensitive to some things, you may not enjoy it as much as you could have if you looked past those things.

At night, I got back and eventually decided to de-stress by going on a run. So, as it is nearing 1am, I call Danny who agrees to run with me. He’s so great! Even though he was tired, he said he’d rather go running with me than have me go alone. What a friend!

Oh, and then a fire started on the Y (mountain), but it wasn’t really anything. Just some stupid kids playing with fireworks. They ARE legal right now, as it is a holiday here, but really. On a mountain with bushes and stuff? Stupid.

Friday: I saw The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian at the dollar theatre. It was SUCH a good movie, complete with obligatory kissing scene and everything. I got rather sad with all the war and dying, though, but I love the religious symbolism. Incredible. Now if only I could get myself to sit down and read the books.

Saturday: IDAHO!

Danny, Devon, Ryan and I drove up to check out BYU-I for Danny. However, being a Saturday, it was closed. EVERYTHING was closed. So we just walked around. We did some other stuff in Idaho. Most of it backfired. It was still a cool day. The car ride was probably the weirdest but funniest thing ever. Somehow we turned into some dysfunctional family with Ryan and I being the parents. If I tried to explain, you wouldn’t understand but Danny and Devon typed out a very detailed diary of the happenings AS they were happening. Laptops apparently have incredible battery life nowadays.

The Potato Museum, which was closed by the time we got there, but at least we got this picture.

Sunday: Church. Dinner. A storm has rolled in, or rather, is rolling in as I type. It’s gorgeously overcast and I think I hear thunder. Hurray!

Well, that was my week. The end.

Futurism in 20th Century Theatre

An example of such a movement:

Arnaldo Corradini [Ginna] and Bruno Corra,

Alternation of Character / Alternazione di Carattere (1915)

HUSBAND: No. It is useless. It is time to finish it! I shall not deceive myself any longer because I make you cry immediately!

WIFE (crying): No! Carlo no!… come here… come here… listen to me!…

HUSBAND (crying tenderly): Pardon me, Rosetta! Pardon me!…

WIFE (enraged): For God’s sake! If you don’t stop with this inopportune sentimentality, I will slap you…

HUSBAND (at the height of his fury): Enough!… or I shall hurl you out of the window…

WIFE: Darling! Darling! How much I love you! Tenderness grips my heart… give me again your delicious reprimands.

HUSBAND: Ah! Rosetta… Rosetta!… my infinite love…

WIFE (exasperated): If you repeat that another time, I will divorce you!… (Precisely.) I will divorce you!…

HUSBAND (exploding): Ah! Ah! Wretch!… go away!… go away!… go away!…

WIFE: I have never loved you more sweetly!

HUSBAND: Ah! Rosetta! Rosetta!…

WIFE: Enough… (She slaps him.)

HUSBAND: Enough, I say. (Slaps her twice.)

WIFE (languidly): Give me your lips! Give me your lips…

HUSBAND: Here, treasure!

the week/end: midterms/movement

OH MY GOOD HEAVENS.

Cleaning check: we passed. But we cleaned all afternoon to prepare. Torture. I have a new hatred of sink drains.

New Testament Assignment: Well, it’s done. Whether it was done well, I’m not sure. I guess I’ll find out soon.

Footloose: Danny took me on a date to Footloose at the Scera Outdoor Theatre in Orem! Also present were Brock/Devon and Stephen/Jessica. It was a lot of fun and Gary, I’ve finally seen it. I bet you’re proud.

Decades Dance: While I wasn’t able to dance much at Footloose (I mean, I DID, but not MUCH), I totally redeemed myself here. Well, not TOTALLY, but I DID dance, and it was pretty fun. It started a bit too early, and as it was outside and light out for a couple more hours, it wasn’t the most ideal time to dance, but we all eased into it.

19 July 2008: The Midnight Masquerade (that ended at 11pm).

Post-Masquerade

I studied Sunday night and got a total of two hours of sleep. My TMA 202 (theatre) midterm is over, thank heavens, and afterward, I got a half hour nap, which somehow really energized me. Somehow, in my loopiness, I came up with a brilliant plan to have a Christmas party for family home evening.

We had a packed house- we have about 18 people in our family home evening group (or more, or less)- but I’m not sure who would really want to be featured in my blog. Daniel and Kelsey won’t mind. Don’t they look attractive? I made my fake gingerbread cookies. The 66 girls brought ice cream, hot fudge, and brownies. Stephen brought apple cider that I may or may not have forced him to buy.

Well, there you have it. Next weekend’s post will include Pioneer Day happenings and perhaps a day trip to a faraway, exotic land of potatoes. How exciting!

this week’s happenings (etc.)

This is more for myself than anything, but you’ll probably hear about some of these things on next Sunday’s post!

Thursday, July 17: Footloose with Danny?!?!?! OR Museum of Art Opening Exhibition Reception.

Thursday, July 17: Assignment due for New Testament class. Get take home midterm.

Friday, July 18: Decades Dance.

Saturday, July 19: “The Midnight Masquerade” (which actually ends before midnight, but whatever).

Monday, July 21: Dramatic Performance History class Exam #1. New Testament midterm due.

Thursday, July 24: Pioneer Day/ABBA Tribute band concert!!!!!!!!

Monday, July 28: New Testament paper due.

Essentially, this next week/weekend is a mixture of awesome and awful. I can’t decide. But I can promise you one thing: I’ll be so exhausted and loopy that you just can’t trust a thing I say. So if I start talking about potatoes then lick your face, ignore it.

Are you there, Mom? It’s me, Allison.

Really, though. Mom, do you read this?

Nope. But you were in Colorado anyway, so this particular post is old news for you.
