Community college. Oh, driving between 20 and 40 minutes to school Mondays through Thursdays all of these weeks. Oh, the lack of social life. Oh, the school work I should have spent more time on. Oh, the things I didn’t care about.
On October 31, 2007, I flew up to Utah to check out colleges and hang out with my Aunt Susan, Uncle Rick, and their three fantastic boys. I may have broke down emotionally a couple of times just dreading the last semester. I couldn’t see the end even then. Susan and Rick lovingly gave me advice and told me that having an Associate degree would transfer better than just a bunch of single classes. It’s a solid document, they said, and that would make a significant difference in the ease of transferring.
During that trip, we visited Salt Lake Community College, Brigham Young University (Provo), University of Utah, and Brigham Young University (Idaho). SLCC was definitely out- they weren’t very friendly and I could get the same education at home without paying nonresident fees. U of U was such a gorgeous campus. I love downtown Salt Lake City, but it just didn’t feel right. On my last day in Utah, my aunt and I spontaneously drove up to Idaho to check out that campus. I don’t think I even called my mom until we were there to say “Oh, hey, we’re in Idaho, by the way.” It just slipped both of our minds. We had a good time– everyone was extremely friendly, it was cold, but tolerable (though I wouldn’t say the same if I visited in the dead of winter)… but I didn’t get that feeling again.
Brigham Young University (Provo). I got that feeling, and I felt so much that I would get in, but I didn’t think I could get in. Long story short, I did.
And now we are here.

San Diego Mesa College, Associate in Arts – English
I still have two finals and a PE class to finish, though, so I’m not really done yet.
In closing, let’s just all pray I get my diploma in the mail and didn’t screw this up somehow.
Yours, Allison
