Today, just before 2:40pm, I finished the play I have been writing this month. It’s 100 pages long and was written entirely in the month of April for ScriptFrenzy.org.
UPDATE: 25 April 2008: It’s official:

That’s right.
The days of Foreign Loren are coming to a close (brief or permanent, I know not, but I am moving away in two months, so you know). Therefore, I will now summarize this last weekend up the coast with the band.
We played two shows with the band Kapiano, who we’ve released a split with entitled “Sea Faced / Home Is Where Your Heart Breaks.” I really love all of the songs. I’ve been listening to Kapiano’s song “Saltwater” a lot, as well as their other songs on the release. So good!
On Thursday, April 10, 2008, we played at the University of California Santa Barbara campus radio station, KCSB, on the show 5432fun!. We played from about 10:30pm-11:45pm I think. Kapiano played first then we switched off after every two songs. We closed with two covers, one of “Hallelujah” and one of Okkervil River’s “Kansas City” (I think I posted that on this blog early this morning, no?) It was a lot of fun and we played percussion and occasionally sang on each others’ songs.
Pat, Andrea, Aaron, Jered, and myself went out to Mexican food afterward with Alex, who works at KCSB. Delicious veggie burrito and entertaining conversation.
I got into Laura Woods’ apartment at about 3:30am after dropping the boys off at their friend’s house. I woke at 7:30am and a while later went to a great coffee shop, the Nautical Bean in San Luis Obispo, to get chamomile tea and a delicious pumpkin muffin. This wasn’t your average muffin- it was huge and had some chocolate chips in it and a bit of melted marshmallow on top. Good gracious! Needless to say, I was very stuffed, which still didn’t stop me from having an Italian Sub at a sandwich shop with Laura and her roommate Rosie for lunch. I have to say that food was definitely a highlight of the trip. I indulged!
The show that night was at Higher Groundz with Kapiano, of course, Iamb, and Little Nation. It was a great show and I had been wanting to see Iamb and Little Nation live, so it worked out. I’ve seen Ross (Iamb) play in the band Candle before but never as a solo artist. He was accompanied by his younger brother on cello. It was a really great set. EVERYONE played really great sets I think. Paul from Real Love Records managed sound and we owe him so much. How stressful that must be! Good man, good man.
Laura wasn’t able to come to the show at Higher Groundz because her friend was very ill, unfortunately. Her roommate, Katie, did come with their friends, though. After the show, I went back to their apartment and hung out. I love them all! We had such a lovely time. I really do wish that I was back there hanging out with them and with Pat and Andrea. I just love all of these people who we spent time with this weekend!
The Fullerton show fell through at the very last minute, so we just headed home. We stopped for a late dinner at Ruby’s when we got out of Los Angeles (which is a terrible, terrible city that consumes you in traffic for hours) then got in around 11pm I believe. Jered drove, which was so nice. I dislike driving at night, and he is a saint for putting up with my worried nature (no one ever drives my car but me, and I’m just not used to it).
What a swell weekend!
Foreign Loren played shows in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo this weekend with Kapiano to promote our split with them, “Sea Faced / Home Is Where Your Heart Breaks.” We played a lot on each others’ songs, mostly percussion, but we closed with two covers, one being Okkervil River’s “Kansas City.” No one in Foreign Loren had heard this song before but we got the chords and went with it. I played the piano.
